Rathcreedan Lodge 8690’s intrepid explorer and Master Elect David Anthony Williams decided doing nothing with regard to the Russian invasion of the Ukraine was not an acceptable situation.
And so, with close friend Adrian Kirshaw the two formulated a plan to obtain much needed supplies such as nappies, toothbrushes, sanitary ware, toilet rolls etc. W. Bro Dennis White, Charity Steward sent an email to all Rathcreedan members and in very short time some much needed over £700 funding was secured.
The intrepid explorers set off on Wednesday 16 March with a route which would take them thru the Channel Tunnel from Folkestone, into Calais, Belgium, Germany heading for Poland taking them close to Warsaw. Unfortunately as they neared Lublin in Poland they had a problem with the van when a wheel literally fell off the van. The last picture we saw was of it and its occupants being loaded on a transporter…It transpired that the near side rear wheel bearing collapsed. The vehicle was taken to a local Ford dealership for repairs which would take 4 days.
Whilst the vehicle was being repaired Tony & Adrian worked at a distribution centre in Lublin, loading and unloading supplies then repackaging them for their final destination to provide much needed support to the oppressed Ukrainian people.
Tony & Adrian picked up the repaired vehicle on Tuesday 22 March following which they started their journey home. A mere 25 hour drive which in Tony’s words, turned out to be the hardest part of the exercise.
We applaud their efforts and I’m sure you will join with us in congratulating their selfless endeavours.
